-2021 in review. You recall that we left 2020 with the SUNBURST exploits that spread through hundreds of organizations. 2021 saw ongoing reactions to that including the issuing of the Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity. 2021 ended with a bang as security people dropped everything to deal with the widespread Log4j vulnerabilities.
-New investments. 2021 was the biggest year in the short history of cybersecurity for new investments.Total investment more than doubled and the number of companies that took in new funding doubled too. A complete list of the new funding appears in Security Yearbook 2022.
-M&A. A complete list of all the acquisitions in 2021 provided by America’s Growth Capital Partners.
-Significant Cybersecurity Incidents. For the first time we include a list of all the hacking and breaches that occurred in 2021, at least the ones of note. This is provided by CSIS.
-In Memoriam. This is new to the series. In this section we pay tribute to those who have left us in 2021.
-Growth by sector. Also new, we report on the growth (or decline in one case) of all 16 sectors of the industry. Spoiler alert: 2021 was the year of Security Operations.
-Information on 2,875 cybersecurity vendors. We added 310 vendors and removed 50 vendors which had disappeared or been acquired. The Directory lists all the vendors alphabetically, by country, and by category.
